Klip Dagga is a flowering plant that originates from tropical Africa and Southern India. It is also now found in Latin America, West Indies, and the South Eastern United States. It is part of the Lamiaceae family, along with other kitchen herbs, such as mint, thyme, and rosemary. Other names are Lion’s Ear, Christmas Candlestick, Tilley’s Curse, Shandilay, and Grantiparani.
The leaves and flowers contain stachydrine and leonurine which are said to calm the nerves and produce mild euphoria. A tea made from this is said to heal burns, ease symptoms of fever or cold, and can combat malaria. In Trinidad, it is brewed as a tea for fever, coughs, womb prolapse, and malaria.
Klip Dagga has become a popular smoking alternative to Marijuana. Resulting in a pleasant and euphoric effect.
